Participants in Lahual and Spiti for 1st Half-Marathon

Around 260 tribals had participated in the first "half-marathon" organised in Lahual and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, located at an altitude of 10,354 ft in Himachal Pradesh.

Baljinder Singh from Punjab have won the first "Half-Marathon" by covering the distance just in 1 hr, 19 Min & 26 Sec, while Reeta Kumari won the second position and first in the women's category, by covering the distance in 1 hr, 36 Min & 02 Sec.

According to Baljinder Singh, the Winner of the Race, it's difficult to run at such a high altitude where oxygen is scarce, but good for an atheletes & players in order to boost up the stamina that it takes.

Atheletes & Sports personalities from different states like Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab participated in the race along with the Indian army at Keylong, the headquarter of Lahual and Spiti for the tribal festival that began yesterday.

According to senior officials, it would be an annual event during the tribal festival.

Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development

Himachal Pradesh Government is looking forward to review the tourism policy of Himachal Pradesh that has been incorporated in 2005. The review meeting will sit with technical assistance from all over the World Bank in order to put on more emphasis on sustainable tourism development in the state. After the prospective development of Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur's tourism, the tourism development is being prepared for the district.

According to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, the Keylong region and Spiti region would be provided with the Wi-Fi system in order to have the communication connectivity throughout the year.

In order to collect the tourist statistics of Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra has launched the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Online Information system. He also launched an SMS-based software that would help the tourists to send their queries, complains & suggestions instantly to the department.

Tourism Development in Himachal Pradesh

According to CM of Himachal Pradesh Virbhadra Singh, the tourism department has started its study on Dharamshala Area so as to come up with the tourism activities on the sustainable basis in this area. Apart from these, the department would chalk out its plan for Chintpurni, Naina Devi and Kangra Town for their mobility and master development plan for tourism.

CM insists that the state had great potential for its water adventure activities, and that's what the set up of house boats and cruises were set up in the Maharana Pratap Sagar and Gobind Sagar reservoir. Next, a mini amusement park would be set up at Sadhupul in Solan district. In order to promote more of tourism in Himachal Pradesh, the government would deal with some more hotels and tourist facilities in the backward panchayats of the state that had varied tourism development potentialities.

CM also informed the HPTDC to come up with more camping facilities in its region to promote their eco-friendly tourism of Himachal Pradesh among the tourists.
